blog 9. “Empowering Change” - Quebec City 2019
We recently had the opportunity to attend our association’s (OAA) annual conference, which this year was held in Quebec City. The conference is always a good chance to step outside of the office for a couple of days, meet with colleagues, learn about new approaches and technologies, or maybe brush up on some older ones, and to get inspired - not a bad location for that.
The theme of this years conference was “Empowering Change”. And whether that is at a community level, contributing to community and social well being, or at a smaller residential scale, Architects are uniquely positioned to help drive that change.
Topics that were touched on ranged from the role of the architect, and establishing a national framework for architecture, to changes in how we design buildings in order to meet new standards and programs that continue to be adopted, in an effort to address changes to our climate - programs such as Carbon Neutral, Net Zero, and Passive House. Many of these standards have been around for some time, are already well established in many markets throughout Europe and states like California, and will become more common in the coming years (and the subject of Blogs in the coming months).
We need to be ready to grow and adapt to meet these challenges. And we are excited to help lead that change.
